2nd (or extra) sections .....
Occasionally it will be necessary to use a 2nd or extra section symbol on a train. e.g. when originating a train at an intermediate station,
or when it is necessary to dispatch 2 or more trains under the same symbol on the same day. Players should replace the Primary Symbol with the Extra Symbol
as given in the tables below. e.g. NS 288 originates at Bowden Yard, FL but occasionally it needs to originate at Inman,GA in which case the symbol from Inman would be NS I88.
I have simplified some of these and I have not always followed prototypical practice.
Where an extra symbol does not exist or when more symbols are needed than are available, then players should append a lower case letter to the Primary Symbol
e.g for a Norfolk Southern Local NS BC16-DD this would become NS BC16-DDa (where DD is date).
Burlington Northern Santa Fe
This applies to all BNSF Manifest, Local, Intermodal and Unit Grain trains. For unit coal FYM uses Day-of-Year and not a sequential number.
So for Unit Coal, trains beyond the 3rd section and trains dispatched from an intermediate Station, append a lower case letter to the Pimary Symbol.
CN symbols are of the form CN AxxxBC-NN (e.g. M30131-29), where "C" is the section symbol.
C will be 1 for the Primary symbol as defined in the CN TSAR. For 2nd or extra sections (including trains dispatched from intermediate stations) replace the 1 with 2, 3, etc.
For 2nd (or extra) sections on all other CSX trains append a lower case letter to the primary symbol defined in the CSX TSAR.
Kansas City Southern
For second or extra sections and for intermediate Station dispatch append a lower case letter to the Primary Symbol.
For locals append a lower case letter to the primary Symbol
Prepend 1, 2, etc to the Primary Symbol for extra sections or trains dispatched from intermediate Stations.
Shortlines and Regionals
For all Shortline and Regional Railroads append a lowercase letter to the Primary Symbol for 2nd or extra sections and trains dispatched from intermediate Stations.
